Frequently asked questions

How long do we need to allow for photos?OpenClose

I would suggest you have a look at what time sunset will be on the big day and work back from there. Don’t book anything until you know that. Photographers love that last hour of light before the sun sets – and most of us love the next half-hour or so after that, too.

MMake sure you allow for travelling time if you’re going to different locations and make sure you allow for time to get the bridal party in and out of cars. It’s amazing how long it takes.

Prepare a list of family photos required and put someone who knows both sides of the family in charge of it. Family photos eat up time; allow at least 20 minutes.

The ‘meet and greet’ is the time photographers usually churn through the film or flash cards. It’s when real emotions are on show as everyone congratulates the newly weds. I normally shoot for about 20 minutes. By then, you’ll have kissed or hugged a large percentage of your guests.

After you work out how much time you need for photographs, you can think about booking the church. But, of course, it rarely works like that. More often, it’s: “We’ve booked the church for 4pm and the reception starts at 6.30pm, how many locations can we go to?” And I’m fine with that.

Do you do a pre-wedding shoot?OpenClose

I normally like to catch up with the couple two weeks prior to the wedding to do a light and location search. This is where we can do a few photos, if you like.

It’s ideal to do this search at the same time of day as when you will leave the church a married couple. I can see where the best light is and the best locations for photos around the church. We can then move on and have and look at the locations I have–or you have–in mind for the location shots. This all saves time on the wedding day, because you are not wasting time trying to find the best light.

What kind of camera do you use?OpenClose

I use Nikon equipment and always have. Currently I use a Nikon D3x, Nikon’s top of the range 24megapixel DSLR which delivers 69meg Raw files. I use the D3X for a couple of reasons, not only are the files huge, but it has amazing low light capabilities and it records on to two flash cards simultaneously providing me with a back up card. I also carry a spare camera body.

Have you won any awards for your wedding photography?OpenClose

I can’t lay claim to multitudes of awards, mainly because I have never entered award shows. What I offer is experience, professionalism, creativity and a love of photography.

Do you travel?OpenClose

I will travel to wherever you want me to go, all you have to do is pay for my ticket and expenses.
